Instantly after the teams are finalized, coach Garbrandt need to select the very first competition match. He pits his No. 1 pick, Baczynski, to break Team Dillashaw’s No. 7 choice, Smith.
Smith thinks his tryout interview with Garbrandt caused the match. Smith informed the coaching staff he felt the reality series was his final possibility at MMA success and he thinks that sincerity was seen a weakness.
The tournament will start with back-to-back fights, so the ball returns into Team Dillashaw’s court for the second fight choice. Coach Dillashaw picks his own No. 1 pick Krause for a face-off with Team Garbrandt’s No. 4 choice Urbina.
